About the Artist

I am a New England artist who is captivated by the beauty of my coastal surroundings. Two and a half years ago, my husband and I moved to the Newburyport specifically because of its lush marshes, sand dunes, and rugged jetties. Little did I know how much this move would inspire me to paint more than I ever have. Initially it was the ocean that captured my attention. But the marshes had an even stronger pull, especially after purchasing a small inflatable boat which allowed me to view these from a whole new perspective.
I work in pastels because of the endless array of lush colors and limitless possibilities achieved though layering one tone on another. The pastel sticks themselves have taught me that “sky blue” is actually a combination of many different colors, some warm, some cool, and some even neutral. And finding that perfect mix where the colors play off one another and almost vibrate is like unlocking a buried treasure. Whether focusing on the land or sea, I like to incorporate “big skies” and cloud formations into my work. As a young child I was mesmerized by clouds and thought they were a preview of what heaven must look like. I think painting in Newburyport is a preview of what heaven might feel like. Setting up my easel in a spot I feel an emotional connection to is pure joy. Through my work, I long to capture a moment and freeze it in time for others to enjoy, or for me to remember and cherish.
